Ortenburg Castle, also known as Unterhaus Castle or Paterns Castle, is located in the village of Unterberg in the municipality of Baldramsdorf in Carinthia. It is a structure from the 18th century and is protected as a historical monument. The building houses the "1st Carinthian Crafts Museum."
The structure located below Ortenburg was commissioned by Emperor Frederick III and built by the master builder Hans Schwab. At that time, the estate belonged to the Ortenburg lordship. The local prince Alphons of Porcia had the "old ruins" restored around 1710 and donated it to the Hieronymites as a monastery. It was intended to serve as a base to combat secret Protestantism. Just a few decades later, the building fell into disrepair and was rebuilt as a castle in 1767/1773, incorporating parts of the building from the 16th and 17th centuries. The Hieronymite Order was dissolved under Emperor Joseph II still in the 18th century, but Ortenburg Castle continued to serve as a monastery until the early 19th century. In 1871, Gustav Ritter von Gröller acquired the estate, and his son-in-law, Baron Lambert von Glanstätten, had the castle restored and adorned with battlements around 1912. His heirs sold the castle to the insurance company Phönix. Since 1938, Ortenburg Castle has belonged to the municipality of Baldramsdorf, which rented out the premises for a long time until it established a crafts museum there in 1977 and a China collection from 2006 to 2015.
