Sculptor Valeer Peirsman created the sculpture group on behalf of Tourism Temse and the municipal authorities. Three of the four figures are based on authentic dockworkers: den Bruine (Alfons Gosselin), far left; de Mekker (Désiré Aelbrecht), second from the left; and de Schele Wringer (Frans Vervynckt), far right. The fourth dockworker, second from the right, symbolizes all dockworkers. The monument provides space for tourists to have their photographs taken in this company. The sculpture group was officially unveiled on May 25, 1991.
