A few kilometers from Ligny lies this crossroads of Les Quatre-Bras in Baisy-Thy. This was the scene of the first Franco-British battle of the Belgian Campaign, a kind of prelude to the great Battle of Waterloo. While the Franco-Prussian Battle of Ligny on June 16, 1815, ended with a partial French victory, the Franco-English battle that took place at Les Quatre-Bras in Baisy-Thy, a prelude to Waterloo, ended without a clear victor. The site of the fighting has not been designated a protected historical site.
