In the village of Laforêt, one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia, a wickerwork bridge (claies) is installed across the Semois every spring. The small bridge is dismantled in autumn.
The claies are panels of woven hazelnut laid on logs that span the river. This makes it possible to cross from one bank to the other on foot.
It is a legacy of the tobacco planters who used it to get to the fertile land along the river without having to diversions.
It measures 80 metres in length (for the large and small sections) and is made up of around 75 racks. This bridge links Vresse and Laforêt.
