The village lies at the confluence of the rivers Ourthe and Amblève and owes its name to this ("confluentes" – "confluent"). Comblain has already been inhabited since the Mesolithic period. The "Discoveries of Comblain" (caves, bat center, underground quarry, museum of the Land of Ourthe-Amblève, and open-air museum of the Saint Martin Tower) are worth a visit.
