It is a wooden, glazed tree chapel attached to a so-called candelabra lime tree and probably dates from the third quarter of the 20th century.
The custom of hanging chapels from lime trees is a centuries-old tradition. The lime tree was often considered a sacred tree or "tree of peace" in the past. The tree on Veldwegel is "candle-shaped," meaning its branches have been pruned back in a specific way to resemble a candlestick. This reinforces the ceremonial character of the location.
These kinds of small beacons used to serve as resting points for farmers or hikers to reflect for a moment.
