Perhaps around 1100, an abbey of Benedictine nuns was founded at the site of Godelieve's martyrdom. According to legend, the abbey was established by Edith, the daughter from Bertolf's second marriage. She was born blind, but could see when she washed her eyes with water from the well in which Godelieve was drowned.
If you want to know more about the abbey and its history, you can take a heritage walk on the abbey grounds.
