Near the agglomeration of Ghent, in an old Scheldt meander in Destelbergen and Laarne, lies the Dam Valley. Although divided into four parts by the construction of the interchange with the E17 and the ring road around Ghent (R4), the Dam Valley remains a beautiful natural area of European significance. Along a string of peat pits, hay meadows, wetlands, and marsh forests alternate. To enhance and restore the natural value where needed, Natuurpunt has implemented a large-scale project. You can explore the nature in the Dam Valley via various signposted walking paths. More information about the natural values and management can be found on the website www.damvallei.be.
