In this variant, we searched maximally for non-asphalted (concrete or asphalt) paths within the characteristic Haspengouw landscape. The unpaved hiking trails are more pleasant for the muscles. This hiking version also offers the opportunity to shorten the hike at the end without missing the Doorkijkkerkje.
Down the Nieuwlandstraat to the right and over the Nieuwlandstraat down to the market, Klappoel, the Kortestraat, Trappenstraat up. First, we go right behind the library to the Burchtheuvel, which offers us a beautiful view of the Haspengouw landscape. If we look closely, we might even discover the Doorkijkkerkje on the horizon. For hikers, this is the motivation to go on a treasure hunt. In front of the Odulfuskerk, we take the Kortestraat down to the right into the Haspengouw landscape. We are looking for the jewel of the artist duo Gijs & Van Vaerenbergh. Between the lines: the world-famous Doorkijkkerkje made of Corten steel. But we keep the suspense high. The little church is part of the Haspengouw landscape and of these hills, valleys, forests, orchards, and open landscapes. And during April, we hike among the blossoms of spring bloom, this is true pleasure. Thus, each season has its own charm, the coziness of the forest edges with their autumn tones and the openness of the wintry landscape.
