PAJOTTENLAND GOOIK 12.3 km starts at Dorpstraat 24 Gooik by the church. Junctions: 27-28-29-25-24-232-231-268-814-211-229-228-227-226-204-201-202-203-222-218-220-221-223-206-27-

The Folk Instrument Museum

Are you fascinated by the creation and workings of (old) folk musical instruments such as the hommel, hurdy-gurdy, or wooden violin? Then a visit to the Folk Instrument Museum in Gooik is certainly worth it.

Valuable instruments, prints, and archival pieces reveal all their secrets at the Folk Instrument Museum: a collection put together by Herman Dewit and Rosita Tahon after years of fieldwork and has found a place thanks to the municipal authorities of Gooik in community center De Cam, above the folk café.

The Folk Instrument Museum can be visited individually, but we highly recommend a group tour. Such a tour is facilitated by trained animators. These are motivated musicians who provide an extensive demonstration of the instruments available for viewing in the museum.

Where: Community center De Cam, Dorpsstraat 67, 1755 Gooik

When: Every day (except Monday and Tuesday) from 10 AM to 6 PM or by appointment.

Price: Individual visits are free. An animated group tour (max. 30 people) costs € 50 per hour. Schools and educational institutions receive a discount of € 10.

Geuzestekerij De Cam

Lambic is the mother of all beers, an age-old tradition of brewing and spontaneous fermentation, unique in the world. The geuzesteker uses fresh brew from four different breweries.
The wort ages in 150-year-old barrels of 1000 liters from the Czech Republic. Geuzesteker Karel Goddeau will “blend” or mix and bottle lambic of 1, 3, and 5 years. A spontaneous re-fermentation in the bottle for at least 1 year results in the “old geuze.”

This is the most expensive beer (3 years) to brew, but with so many complex flavors and a delightful finish with a light oak touch: world-class.

By adding Schaarbeekse cherries to lambic, we obtain the noble old kriek. Old geuze and old kriek are geographically protected names. Where: Community center De Cam, Dorpsstraat 67, 1755 Gooik.

Baron Lancelot de Gottignies had this residence built as a summer retreat. Above the door hangs the coat of arms with three beech hammers and the year 1742. The building that closes off the inner courtyard likely served as a brewery. The coat of arms can also be found in blue hardstone there. The name 'Cam' is derived from 'Cambe', which means brewery.
On the other side, there are still the buildings that served as stables. Here we find the year 1755.
The old Cam was purchased by the municipal administration in 1992 and now serves as a community center, it is the meeting point in the heart of Gooik. It is the ideal stop for walkers, cyclists, or day-trippers. This complex houses a cozy rustic folk café with old folk games, a geuzestekerij, a folk instrument museum, meeting rooms, and the Cultuurschuur. You can also take a day out with the covered wagon. The sporty among us can go mountain biking.

The Calvary Cross.
The Calvary cross is a cast iron cross with an open-air Stations of the Cross from 1929 consisting of seven monoliths (from one piece of stone) with Stations of the Cross scenes on both sides.
The cross was consecrated on May 5, 1901, to dedicate the 20th century to Christ. Until the start of World War I, this blessing was commemorated here annually, on the occasion of “Kermis Heide,” on the first Sunday of May.

Happy walking, Emiel Peeters
