It is supported by the nationwide Joachim Ringelnatz Foundation, which was founded in the summer of 2001 and takes care of the care of the estate and the memory of the writer and painter Joachim Ringelnatz. The museum is located in a historic half-timbered building on Südersteinstraße, directly opposite Ritzebüttel Castle. In a permanent exhibition, it shows manuscripts, books and photographs, drawings, watercolours and oil paintings by the poet and painter, whose literary works were destroyed in the book burning in Germany in 1933 and whose paintings were removed from museums and collections by the National Socialists in 1937 as part of the Degenerate Art Campaign. One focus of the museum presentation, which is supported by an audio guide for children and young people, is also German history of the early 20th century and the path to National Socialism. Regular special exhibitions and lecture events are dedicated to related topics.
