This is the fourth stage of the Via Tolonensis, also known in France as GR653, one of the four main ways from France to Santiago de Compostela. The route runs from Arles via Montpellier, Castres, and Toulouse to the Col de Somport where it connects to the Spanish caminos.
The stage from Gallargues-le-Montueux to St. Geniès-des-Mourgues is nearly 20 km long and is marked with the well-known red and white signs.
