Cycling along the Dodendraad

The Border Route winds along the Belgian-Dutch border between the Drielandenpunt in Vaals and the North Sea at Cadzand. You follow the course of the Dodendraad, an electric border barrier from World War I, to prevent smugglers, spies, deserters, or front volunteers from reaching neutral Holland from Belgium.

540 kilometers along 26 reconstructions, monuments, and stories of the Dodendraad. From the hills of Vaals to the Zwin at Cadzand or vice versa. A cycling adventure along car-free country roads and open bike paths. Seven to ten days of pedaling through a diverse landscape of hills, rivers, moorlands, forests, and heathlands, through special border villages and along the world cities of Maastricht and Antwerp.
