Family walk through the Pannenhoef

The 4.6-kilometer long walking route through the Pannenhoef was specifically designed with attention to the accessibility of the roads and paths.

The roads and paths are paved or made of hard sand.

Next to the paved paths, there are posts with a wheelchair symbol.

This walk may be manageable with a wheelchair or stroller, as there are no wooden bridges included in this route.

In addition to accessibility and the beautiful nature, attention is also given to the former peat history that took place in this area.

The starting and ending point of this walk is at the parking area "De Lokkerberg" on Oosteindseweg, Rijsbergen.

On February 1, 2025, some paths were very muddy.

The Pannenhoef is a nature reserve of approximately 706 hectares located between Zundert, Etten-Leur, and Rijsbergen in the province of North Brabant and is owned by the Brabants Landschap Foundation. The area, which largely consists of mixed forest, contains eleven heath ponds and some remnants of heath with significant natural value. Numerous birds breed here, including the green woodpecker and buzzard.

In this area, peat was extracted from the 14th to the 17th century. As the raised bog disappeared, marshy heath emerged here. From 1800, small-scale reclamation began from the center of this area, Arendsberg. This led to the creation of forest and cultural land. From 1900 to 1940, larger-scale reclamation activities took place. In the context of work creation, the low parts were raised using sand from the higher areas, such as the Lokkerberg.
