In the center of Gospel Square, to the right of the statue of Saint John , is the Chapel of the Ascension and Transfiguration of Christ .
This chapel is higher and more spacious than the other chapels, with a beautiful, colorful and varied landscape on the horizon in the background.
Sixteen images depict the last episode of the life of the Good Jesus on this earth: his glorious Ascension. This took place on the Mount of Olives, in the same place where he had endured the agony of death until he sweated blood. Before ascending into heaven, the Good Jesus said goodbye to his Most Holy Mother and blessed the apostles, disciples and others present. To everyone's amazement, he slowly ascended, surrounded by clouds and angels, until he disappeared into space.
At the Ascension, Jesus ascended into heaven, as stated in the Latin inscription on top of the chapel: «ASSUMPTUS EST IN CAELUM», which can be translated as “ He was taken up into heaven (ascended)” , amid white clouds, cherubim and dressed in a purple mantle.
