En el área natural de Bergerven se pueden encontrar tanto bosques de alisos húmedos como bosques secos. Ambos albergan una gran cantidad de especies típicas de plantas y animales.
En los terrenos más secos se encuentran tanto árboles de coníferas como un bosque de robles y abedules pobre en nutrientes que surge naturalmente en este suelo. Limburgs Landschap vzw está transformando gradualmente los bosques de coníferas plantados en un bosque natural de robles y abedules mediante un aclarado. En los pequeños claros que se crean, las plántulas de roble o abeto tienen la oportunidad de germinar y crecer gradualmente hasta convertirse en un bosque de robles y abedules.
