La renovación del dique marítimo en Westende se llevó a cabo en fases entre 2021 y 2023, con la celebración de la nueva y verde dique marítimo y la extensión de amortiguación de olas (GDU) el 24 de junio de 2023. El proyecto es parte del plan maestro para la defensa costera. Incluye una combinación de un dique de hierba y un dique de extensión de amortiguación de olas 'dura' para una mejor protección y un paseo marítimo embellecido.
Entre los 2 paseos marítimos se ha creado un jardín botánico con plantas específicas de zonas costeras y halófitas.
