Es notable en la región entre Kruishoutem y Oudenaarde la excepcionalmente bien conservada estructura de las aldeas. Mientras que en los últimos cincuenta años la relación histórica entre iglesia, castillo, rectoría, ayuntamiento, posadas de pueblo, granjas y mansiones en Flandes se ha perdido a gran velocidad, en Mullem, Lede y Wannegem no hace falta mucha fantasía para imaginar al párroco paseando entre el castillo, las granjas y las sencillas mansiones. Esta concentración de reliquias patrimoniales, junto con el expansivo paisaje de kouter y la actividad agrícola moderna, hace que esta caminata y las otras tres caminatas cortas de esta red a lo largo del Rooigemsebeek sean tan especiales.
