Dürnten tiene una área de 10.2 km2. De esta área, el 60.4% se utiliza para fines agrícolas, mientras que el 17% está forestado. Del resto de la tierra, el 21.4% está urbanizado y el resto es no productivo. En 1996, las viviendas y edificios constituyeron el 13.9% del área total, mientras que la infraestructura de transporte ocupó el resto. Del área total no productiva, el agua representó el 0.8% del área. A partir de 2007, el 15.4% del área municipal total estaba en algún tipo de construcción.
El río Jona fluye a través del municipio. Se encuentra en el lado suroeste de la montaña Bachtel. Incluye las aldeas de Dürnten, Oberdürnten y Tann.
