Tomemos ahora el Schloss Linderhof, la villa real de Ludwig II y el único castillo que realmente fue habitado por este rey excéntrico. El rey bávaro Maximiliano II, padre de Ludwig, compró la casa de caza original a mediados del siglo XIX. En los jardines se encuentran todo tipo de edificios kitsch, como el Lago de los Cisnes, la Gruta de Venus y la Casa Marroquí, donde el rey recluso podía entregarse por completo - en su indudablemente rica fantasía - a sus deseos.
