Schöntal es un municipio en el distrito de Hohenlohe en el noreste de Baden-Wrüttemberg, caracterizado por la cultura francona. Pertenece a la región de Heilbronn-Franken.
Schöntal, el municipio con la mayor superficie en el distrito de Hohenlohe, se encuentra a unos 15 km al oeste-noroeste de la ciudad del distrito de Künzelsau y a unos 30 km al noreste del centro regional de Heilbronn. Las aldeas más grandes se agrupan en el valle inferior del Jagst, que recorre el municipio de oeste-suroeste, o están ubicadas en los valles laterales que desembocan en el río, del Sindelbach a la izquierda, luego del Erlenbach a la derecha y –solo en un municipio vecino más abajo– del Kessach, que también es a la derecha. En las alturas entre estos y algunos cuerpos de agua vecinos, solo hay pequeños asentamientos.
