La iglesia parroquial católica romana de Santa Catalina es un símbolo de la ciudad titular de Blankenberg, cerca de Hennef.
El inicio de la construcción se puede datar en el año 1245; en ese año, cuando se otorgaron los derechos de ciudad a Blankenberg, el conde Heinrich III de Sayn y su esposa, la condesa Mechthild de Meißen-Landsberg, fundaron un convento de canonisas agustinianas dentro de las murallas de la ciudad, que pronto fue ocupado por monjas cistercienses. La iglesia del convento fue elevada, probablemente tras su finalización, a iglesia parroquial independiente en 1248. El convento fue trasladado a Zissendorf en 1265, y el derecho de presentación de la iglesia parroquial permaneció en manos de la abadesa hasta el siglo XVI.
