La estación de tren de Gevelsberg se encuentra en la línea de tren Düsseldorf-Derendorf–Dortmund Süd. No debe confundirse con la antigua parada de Gevelsberg y la actual parada de Ennepetal en la línea de tren Elberfeld–Dortmund. También, la estación de Gevelsberg es, desde el punto de vista operativo, una parada, ya que ya no tiene cambios. Todas las demás estaciones principales en Alemania son estaciones de tren. Además, Gevelsberg, Lörrach y Remscheid son los únicos lugares denominados “estación principal” en Alemania que solo son atendidos por trenes S-Bahn.
