La Alma Mater Ernestina en Rinteln, en el Weserbergland, fue una universidad fundada en 1619, que existió hasta 1810.
El origen de la universidad en Rinteln se basa en el gimnasio académico ilustre, fundado en 1610 por el conde Ernst de Holstein-Schaumburg en Stadthagen, que se basaba en una escuela de latín existente desde 1330. Esta institución ya contaba con cuatro facultades y un funcionamiento académico completo. Para ser reconocida como universidad plena, aún faltaba el privilegio imperial que otorgaba el derecho a promover.
