El castillo de Königsberg fue construido en una cima sobre el barrio de Königsberg de la comunidad de Biebertal en el distrito de Gießen en Hesse a mediados del siglo XIII por los condes de Solms.
La construcción del castillo en la cima probablemente se remonta a alrededor de 1240/50, cuando el condado de Solms se dividió en los territorios de Solms-Königsberg, Solms-Burgsolms y Solms-Braunfels. El constructor fue probablemente el conde Marquard de Solms, quien, como antepasado de la línea Solms-Königsberg, necesitaba un castillo propio para la administración de su territorio y como residencia. Sin embargo, también es posible que el castillo ya existiera anteriormente y que simplemente se asignara a Marquard durante la división. El hijo de Marquard, Reimbold I de Solms, fue el primero en llamarse conde de Cunigesberg en 1257, en honor a su residencia en el castillo de Königsberg.
