La Sociedad Else-Lasker-Schüler se esfuerza por una cultura de memoria contemporánea; es una sociedad literaria que actúa políticamente y que está comprometida con la poeta Else Lasker-Schüler, así como con su obra literaria y artística.
La sociedad fue fundada en 1990 en Wuppertal por Hajo Jahn. El primer presidente fue Friedhelm Beiner. El segundo presidente y gerente honorario es el ex periodista de WDR Hajo Jahn. Desde 1997, también es el primer presidente de la sociedad.
