Por Unión de Kalmar se conoce al Estado nórdico surgido a raíz de la fusión de las tres monarquías nórdicas en una misma persona, la reina Margarita I de Dinamarca, reina de Noruega y Dinamarca en 1387, y designada como reina de Suecia en 1397. La Unión de Kalmar llegó a abarcar en superficie un total de aproximadamente 3 000 000 km².[1]
Los reinos escandinavos intentaron en diversas ocasiones, a lo largo del siglo XIV, llegar a la unidad política mediante enlaces matrimoniales. La primera Unión se logró en 1319 entre noruegos y suecos. Más tarde los tres reinos formarían parte de la Unión con la unión entre Margarita de Dinamarca y Håkon de Noruega y Suecia.
