Situado a unos diez kilómetros al sudeste de la ciudad de Mérida, se encuentra en una gran curva del río Guadiana, junto al límite con Vegas Altas. Pertenece a la comarca de Tierra de Mérida - Vegas Bajas y al Partido judicial de Mérida.
Su supervivencia se basa en la economía agraria y ganadera, lo que le hace un pueblo próspero por la fertilidad de sus tierras.
