Alar del Rey es un municipio enclavado en el este de la comarca de Boedo-Ojeda, en la provincia de Palencia, comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León . Se trata también del lugar de nacimiento del Canal de Castilla.
Es una de las localidades del Camino de Santiago del Norte: Ruta del Besaya. Desde 2017, el municipio se encuentra incluido en el Geoparque Las Loras, el primer geoparque de la Unesco en Castilla y León.[1]
