El Centro histórico de Farena es un conjunto de Mont-ral protegido como Bien Cultural de Interés Local.
Farena es el agregado más importante de Mont-ral. Está situado a 623 m de altitud, al norte del municipio, al final de la carretera que va desde La Riba, en un terreno inclinado junto al río Brugent. El pueblo está formado por un agrupamiento de casas de tipología rural, en general de una planta y piso, que se han ido construyendo alrededor de la iglesia, edificio situado en el nivel más alto del núcleo y a partir del cual las construcciones se escalonan hasta el río. Se conserva el trazado inicial de la villa concejo, y algunos elementos del desaparecido castillo de origen medieval. El núcleo se encuentra documentado desde el siglo xii, periodo de construcción de la iglesia románica de San Andrés.
