Sotos en compañía del canal de Mendavia
Esta etapa parte del parque Río Grande de Oyón/Oion y se conecta con el trazado del Camino de Santiago poco antes de acceder a la Reserva Natural del Embalse de las Cañas, enclave que acoge a unas 20 especies de aves invernantes y que cuenta con un observatorio y rutas de PR para recorrerlas. En dirección este se llega al canal de Mendavia, una zona de interesantes sotos (La Sabuquera, los Americanos, Galindo, el Tamarigal, la Veguilla…). Se sigue el curso del río durante un tramo, pero el final de la etapa se separa de nuevo para llegar al enlace con la etapa 17, la ermita de Legarda (siglo XIII), y culminar en la localidad de Mendavia.
