Laón[5] es una ciudad y comuna francesa, situada en el departamento de Aisne, de la región de Alta Francia. Sus habitantes reciben el gentilicio, en francés, de Laonnois.
La parte más antigua de la ciudad se extiende sobre una mota que se eleva unos 100 metros sobre la llanura circundante. Esta orografía, por un lado, ha facilitado la defensa, pero, por otro, ha establecido una separación clara entre el centro, la sede del poder, y los barrios exteriores. La presencia de la catedral sobre la colina le ha valido el apelativo de Montaña Coronada.
