El canal del Norte es un canal de unión que conecta el valle del Oise con el canal de Dunkerque-Escaut. Tiene dos tramos de división alimentados por bombeo desde el Oise y el Aisne, y también recibe los excedentes de la Somme a la altura de Épénancourt. Imaginado veinte años después del plan Freycinet para promover un calado de navegación superior al canal de Saint-Quentin, su construcción, iniciada en 1913, fue interrumpida por las dos guerras mundiales y las dificultades económicas de la entre guerra. Finalmente se abrió a la navegación en 1965.
