Se trata de un Pólvora kilométrica (Hito) de la Ruta de la Libertad, construido en 1948 como un recuerdo imperecedero de la liberación de Europa. La carretera conecta Normandía con la batalla de las Ardenas en Bastogne. La ruta completa está en Routeyou, constituida como ruta motorizada llamada Ruta de la Libertad y como pista ciclista con extensión a los Países Bajos (Wageningen) en diez partes llamadas VDLAV (ruta de la Libertad en bicicleta).
