La fuente de Sainte-Hune es parte de la historia del pueblo de Hunawihr. Ya en el siglo VII se dice que Huna, la esposa de Hunon, que vivía en una villa gala-romana en el lugar actual de la iglesia, se encargaba del lino de los necesitados en la fuente.
Una leyenda dice que en un año de mala cosecha, Huna habría transformado el agua de la fuente en vino. Fue canonizada en 1520 por el Papa León X como "Santa Lavandière", a petición del duque Ulrich de Wurtemberg.
La parte superior del pilar de la fuente lleva la fecha de 1656.
El lavadero adyacente data del comienzo del siglo XX.
La fuente era una fuente de agua potable para los habitantes. Era el lugar de encuentro para las lavanderas y los vinicultores.
