Las aguas cristalinas de este río, famoso por su calidad de pesca, albergan tanto una población de truchas de espiga como una población autóctona de tímalos. En la época de desove, los grandes tímalos machos se visten de un color gris carbón con reflejos azul acero, característico de la cepa Allier.
En estas aguas frías y rápidas, el tamaño de las truchas sigue siendo modesto hasta una media de 28 a 30 cm en las gargantas. Cualquiera que sea su tamaño, la trucha del Allier muestra un formidable espíritu de lucha, capaz de satisfacer al pescador más exigente; pececillos, gobios, esculturas y grandes barbos se mezclan con las truchas y los tímalos, así como con los cachos y las vandoise que abundan en la zona de aguas abajo.
