El pueblo de Varsseveld se encuentra en el municipio de Oude IJsselstreek, en los Países Bajos orientales, entre Doetinchem y Winterswijk. Tiene 6.030 habitantes. El nombre era originalmente Wazovelde y se mencionó por primera vez en documentos en 823, cuando el 7 de febrero un tal Gerowardus transfirió algunas de sus propiedades a la iglesia de San Martín en Utrecht. El nombre se puede interpretar como el campo de los vaarsen.
