En la Prinsegracht, que fue excavada en 1640, se construyó en 1650 la Casa de Mantequilla por el arquitecto municipal Bartholomeus van Bassen. Pronto se hizo demasiado pequeña, así que en 1681, junto a la Casa de Mantequilla, se agregó la gran Bodega de Mantequilla, que estaba destinada exclusivamente al mayorista. Hasta la 1 de la tarde se comerciaba aquí con mantequilla y queso. En verano comenzaban ya a las 7, en invierno solo a las 8. Los particulares iban a la pequeña casa de mantequilla. Encima del arco izquierdo está el año 1650. Detrás de la valla está el Callejón de la Mantequilla con algunas casitas. Encima de la puerta a la izquierda del arco está el escudo de la ciudad de La Haya, la cigüeña.
