La iglesia fue construida para el culto protestante y fue diseñada por Jacob van Campen. La construcción fue posible gracias al apoyo del Príncipe Federico. En 1641 se completó el edificio. Fue necesario un restauración en 1859 y en 1910 la iglesia se quemó por completo. Se llevó a cabo una reconstrucción en forma modificada. En 1951, durante una restauración, se repararon los daños sufridos en la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
