El Bosque Superior está situado a una altura de entre 200 y 240 metros sobre el nivel del mar. El Bosque Inferior está un poco más bajo, ambos al sur de Epen. Eli Heimans, fundador de Natuurmonumenten, llamó al Bosque Superior "el rincón más hermoso de los Países Bajos". Una pared de yeso de 25 metros de altura, un remanente de una antigua cantera de yeso, se llama el Acantilado de Yeso de Heimans.
En el Bosque Superior parece que comienzan las Ardenas. Los pinos, los jabalíes y las vistas onduladas te brindan esa sensación de extranjería definitiva. También estás en el borde más al sur de los Países Bajos.
