Trondheim , antiguamente llamada Nidaros y también Trondhjem, es una ciudad y municipio de Noruega, capital de la provincia de Trøndelag. Con una población de 198.219 habitantes ,[1] es la tercera ciudad más poblada de Noruega, detrás de Oslo y Bergen. El municipio tiene una extensión de 342,27 km². El área metropolitana de Trondheim incluye 7 municipios y ronda los 260 000 habitantes, siendo la cuarta aglomeración urbana del país.[2]
La ciudad de Trondheim se estableció como municipio el 1 de enero de 1838. Los municipios rurales de Byneset, Leinstrand, Strinda y Tiller se fusionaron con Trondheim el 1 de enero de 1964.
