El Sandbiense es la etapa inferior del Ordovícico Superior. Es precedido por el Darriwiliense y sucedido por el Katiense en la etapa del Ordovícico superior. El límite inferior del Sandbiense se define por la primera aparición de los especie de graptolitos Nemagraptus gracilis alrededor de hace 458,4 ± 0,9 millones de años hace. Duró aproximadamente 5.400.000 años hasta el comienzo del Sandbiense alrededor de hace 453,0 ± 0,7 millones de años.[1]
El GSSP del Sandbiense es la sección Fågelsång en Sularp Brook, Este de Lund . Es un afloramiento de esquisto y mudstone. El límite inferior de la Sandbiense se define por la aparición de la especie de graptolitos Nemagraptus gracilis en esa sección.[4]
