Hollywood es un barrio de la ciudad de Los Ángeles, asociado a la industria del cine estadounidense. No fue hasta 1903 cuando se convirtió en municipio y hasta 1910 cuando sus concejales votaron a favor de la integración a Los Ángeles, principalmente para disponer de agua suficiente a través de la red de suministro de la ciudad.
En 1857 se fundó el poblado. Aunque está formado por las palabras holly —acebo— y wood —bosque—, su nombre proviene de un rancho homónimo en el que vivía la familia de un promotor inmobiliario. A su vez, el rancho se llamaba Hollywood porque la esposa del promotor conocía a un matrimonio cuya casa se llamaba así.
