En 1949, une statue de Santiago Apóstol a été acquise, en tant que patron de la confrérie de pêcheurs du même nom qui existait à El Puertito de Güíma.
La statue a été bénie dans l'église de San Pedro Apóstol par le curé-archiprêtre de Güímar, Don Matías Batista Díaz, puis portée en procession à El Puertito . Le 25 du même mois fut célébrée la première fête , qui eut lieu cette année-là et les années suivantes dans un lieu préparé à cet effet.
En juillet 1952, la statue de la Vierge du Carmen fut bénie par le même prêtre.
La chapelle a été construite sur un terrain offert par le docteur Don Radamés Polegre Socas et son épouse, Doña Ángeles García Fumero et a été bénie en 1953 par le curé-archiprêtre de Güímar, Don Matías Batista Díaz. L'horloge a été achetée en 1956 et une image du Crucifié en 1957. En 1966, la paroisse de Santiago Apóstol a été fondée…
