Bischofshofen est une ville autrichienne située dans le district de Sankt Johann im Pongau du land de Salzbourg .
La ville se trouve sur les rives de la Salzach; à environ 50 kilomètres au sud de Salzbourg et juste au nord de Sankt Johann im Pongau, le chef-lieu du district. Elle est entourée par les montagnes des Préalpes orientales septentrionales: le massif du Hochkönig à l'ouest, le Hochgründeck au sud-est, et le massif de Tennen au nord-est.
