Hannut est une ville francophone de Belgique située en Région wallonne dans la province de Liège, en Hesbaye.Globalement peu concernée par les études historiques et les opérations récentes d'archéologie préventive, Hannut mériterait pourtant qu'on s'y intéresse de plus près.[Interprétation personnelle ?] La région fut habitée dès la Préhistoire, largement romanisée sans doute, et cité importante du duché de Brabant au Moyen Âge. Depuis l'élargissement des territoires français, espagnols ou hollandais, à l'échelle européenne, Hannut est plongée dans une sorte d'éclipse historique qui occulte un passé ancien.[réf. nécessaire]
