Bettenhoven (ou Bettincourt) est lié au célèbre compositeur Ludwig van Beethoven. Le village de Bettenhoven (Bettincourt) est situé en Hespengouw, qui fait maintenant partie de Borgworm dans la province de Liège, auquel cas l’étymologie ferait référence à la ferme de Bettingen (famille Betto). Pour être sûr, vous pouvez également célébrer Ludwig van Beethoven ici.
Le nom Beethoven est également lié à la signification de « l’origine originale d’une ferme de betteraves » (selon B. Cooper). Mais ce n’est pas vrai. Le nom Beethoven ou Bettehoven existe depuis le début du Moyen Âge, mais les exploitations betteravières n’existent qu’à partir du 19ème siècle, après la naissance du compositeur. L’hypothèse de Cooper a donc fait son temps depuis un certain temps. Même au 14ème siècle, nous trouvons un couple 'van Roost - van Beethoven' (deux villages adjacents) dans le sud du comté de Loon.
