La Sambre est une rivière franco-belge, affluente de la Meuse, de 190 km de long. Elle fait partie du District international de la Meuse et fait l'objet d'un contrat de rivière qui est devenu un « SAGE » , visant à lui permettre de retrouver le « bon état écologique » dans le cadre de la directive cadre sur l'eau et du SDAGE (Schéma directeur d'aménagement et de gestion des eaux.
