Le célèbre cantatorium, chronique de l'abbaye de Saint-Hubert, nous apprend que, en 955, un château fut fondé en bordure de la rivière Lhomme, à deux lieues de Saint-Hubert. Ce bâtiment fortifié, très modeste pendant plusieurs siècles, connaît une histoire très mouvementée. Les constructions s'y succèdent jusqu'à l'édifice actuel reconstruit par à coups de 1706 à 1734. Au cours de sept siècles, cet ouvrage de défense connaît de nombreuses heures de malheurs
. Malheureusement, cette bâtisse d'une grande splendeur nest pas ouverte au public. Plusieurs ouvrages sur le château sont en vente à la Maison de Tourisme.
