Le canal Ypres-Yser (également appelé canal d'Ypres) relie Ypres à Dixmude et à la mer en passant par Nieuport. Autrefois, le canal était une artère importante, mais il est actuellement principalement destiné à la navigation de plaisance. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, le canal faisait partie du Saillant d'Ypres (Ypres Salient), la ligne de défense contre les troupes allemandes.
